July 26, 2010

On Monday, Research Fellow and Director of DSG's Gender and Public Policy Program May Al-Dabbagh presented "The Gendered Effect of Globalization on the Identities of Young Saudis" at the American University of Beirut’s Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs. In her presentation, Dr. Al-Dabbagh presented findings from a research paper on the gendered effect of globalization on university students in the Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) countries. "Mind Your Language: The Role of Biculturalism in the Propensity to Initiate Negotiations in Globalizing Contexts” explores the nature of bicultural identities among university students in Saudi Arabia and provides an empirical test of the gendered effect of globalization on identity and negotiation expectations. This paper, jointly authored with Professor Hannah Riley Bowles (Harvard University), is part of a multiyear research project at the Gender and Public Policy Program titled "Intersections between culture and gender in negotiation."
