Director of Research
The Dubai School of Government (DSG), a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world, is seeking a Director of Research. At present, the research agenda of DSG focuses on public administration and governance; gender and public policy; e-government; and, issues related to youth inclusion including marriage, unemployment, and education.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director of Research will coordinate the ambitious research agenda of the Dubai School of Government. The work includes managing ongoing research initiatives and projects, identifying promising new research areas, organizing DSG researchers and faculty members on the design and implementation of projects, developing and writing policy papers, evaluating research methodologies, and editing of report drafts. Additional responsibilities include managing and developing strategic institutional relationships, recruiting talented scholars, attending conferences and other events to raise awareness of DSG and its work, and assisting DSG scholars to obtain research resources as needed.
Required Education, Experience and Skills: Ten years of experience conducting and managing research projects, with a distinguished record of accomplishments and proven leadership skills. A postgraduate degree, preferably a doctorate, in an academic discipline related to economics, political science or public policy is required. The successful candidate will be fluent in issues related to public policy and governance in the Arab world, and will have an abundance of expertise about research methodology and quantitative analysis. Outstanding organizational and planning skills are required, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills and a high level of vision and attention to detail.

Director of External Affairs
The Dubai School of Government (DSG), a research and teaching institution focusing on public policy in the Arab world, is seeking a Director of External Affairs to coordinate the development and implementation of overall DSG communications strategy with the aim of positioning the School as the premier research and training institution on public policy in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Director of External Affairs will provide leadership on community matters and relations, media and outreach, publications and online services, and internal communication, in order to improve awareness of and support for the School among the general public and key stakeholders. He/she will identify and prioritize needs of the department and formulate appropriate strategic plans and budgets accordingly; oversee all External Affairs programs through the management and direction of departmental supervisors; develop, expand and nurture partnerships and relationships with key institutions both regionally and internationally; and, manage fundraising efforts to support specific forums and outreach efforts through the building of effective networks and ensuring partner satisfaction.
Required Education, Experience and Skills: Ten years of experience in media and communication administration, with a distinguished record of accomplishments and proven leadership skills. A postgraduate degree in a discipline related to communications, business, or public policy is required. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of issues related to public policy and governance in the Arab world, and will be fluent in both English and Arabic (oral and written). The Director of External Affairs will be a persuasive and eloquent public speaker with strong writing skills, as well as a solid strategic thinker with a demonstrated record of formulating and achieving clear and ambitious objectives. DSG’s Research Fellows are expected to pursue independent as well as collaborative research in a wide range of topics related to public policy and administration including innovative research, writing, advising, and publishing in academic and professional journals and edited volumes. They are also expected to actively participate in outreach and dissemination activities, as well as interact with other scholars, policy makers, and the wider policy community.
Qualifications
- A Ph.D. in public administration, management, economics, political science, public policy, sociology, or a discipline related to the research initiatives listed above
- Record of publications and demonstrated ability to pursue high quality research
- Strong knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods and relevant supporting data-processing software (SPSS, SAS, or STATA)

Faculty Positions in Public Administration/Management, Political Science
The Dubai School of Government is a research and teaching institution focusing on public administration and public policy. The School aims to promote good governance by enhancing the Arab world’s capacity for effective public policy and management. It collaborates with the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in its research and academic programs.
The School is seeking candidates for tenure-track assistant professor positions in public administration, public management and political science. Associate professor-level appointments will also be considered. Research Associate/Project Manager, Gender and Public Policy
The Research Associate (RA) will be responsible for managing the programmatic aspects of the Gender and Public Policy Research Initiative and organizing a wide variety of research activities. The RA will work closely with the director of the program to oversee and manage all research activities including: developing research proposals, managing the data collection and analysis processes, hiring and training research assistants, and writing and editing of papers and policy briefs. The RA will develop and manage the monthly Gender Research Seminar Series, exercising both academic and administrative capabilities. The RA will manage all communication related to program, in both English and Arabic. The RA will maintain and increase the network of universities and academics in the UAE, the Gulf and the Arab region, with whom DSG can conduct collaborative research and programmatic activities. The RA will also be involved in conference management, writing and editing of conference proceedings and preparation of budgets related to program. The RA will support fundraising and developing proposals to donors. The RA will be required to participate in a variety of public events at the Dubai School of Government and represent the program in local and international conferences and workshops.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
- At least a master's degree in the social sciences, including social psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science or economics, gender studies or women’s studies
- Previous project management experience is required. Experience organizing events and conferences, managing and developing databases, and managing communication and outreach is highly desirable.
- Ability to hire, select and manage a team of research assistants (local and international)
- Aptitude to manage academic research projects in cooperation with universities and research collaborators, including timeline, budget and deliverables.
- Ability to develop a solid network with various universities and academics in the UAE, Gulf and Arab region.
- Competence in managing academic-related research seminar lecture series or conferences events, including writing and editing conference proceedings and branding of the program though organizing the logistical and administrative functions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skill (both Arabic and English) in order to represent the program in local and international forums.
- Capacity to support fundraising for research projects and programmatic activities and the ability to effectively manage funds and write update reports to donors.
- Ability to locate and collect relevant documents and data from sources such as electronic databases, libraries, government publications and field research.
- Aptitude to contribute to ongoing research activities through a variety of methods, such as, interviews and focus groups.

Research Associate, Gender and Public Policy
DSG Research Associates (RAs) in the Gender and Public Policy Research Initiative will be expected to conduct research on a variety of cross-cutting Gender and Public Policy issues in the fields of organizational behavior, cross-cultural social psychology, sociology, economics, behavioral economics, political science, anthropology, negotiation and leadership. RAs will be involved in a number of ongoing research projects, including: gender and culture dynamics in negotiation and leadership in the Middle East, gender in organizations, and women’s economic and political participation in the GCC. The RA needs to be familiar with research methods and processes including, data collection, entry and analysis, study design and literature reviews. Previous experience with conducting survey research and laboratory experiments is especially useful. The RA will also be responsible to write and contribute to academic papers, policy papers and policy briefs on a variety of topics. The RA will also be expected to edit, proofread, and fact check a variety of policy reports and papers. The RA should have the ability to use statistical programs (e.g. SPSS), and collect data. The RA will be required to participate in Dubai School of Government public events and is expected to represent the program in academic local and international conferences and workshops.
Required Education, Experience and Skills

- A thorough understanding of a range of research methods and paradigms

A record of research published in academic and/or policy oriented outlets is desirable. Previous experience in grant writing to foundations and other funders is highly desirable.
- Ability to locate and collect relevant documents and data from sources such as electronic databases, libraries, government publications and field research, including focus groups, in-depth interviews and administering questionnaires
- Advanced knowledge in statistical software (SPSS or STATA) and methods of data collection and analysis
- Previous experience with conducting lab experiments and/or survey research is highly desirable
- Ability to work as a member of the team with the program director, research associates, nonresident fellows and international research collaborators
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively
