Members of the Gender and Public Policy program take part regularly in a variety of events, policy forums, panels and meetings related to gender and public policy. These are important sources of information sharing and a touchstone for policy makers, intellectuals and researchers in the field. These forums and meetings are an ideal platform outside DSG researchers to gain information, discuss ideas, channel and share resources and get broader perspectives on work in the region.
Through these types of activities and forums, the Gender program has fostered important relations with leading organizations in the UAE and around the world. The program has worked closely with local organizations, senior members of government, policy makers and academics in the UAE such as the Federal National Council.
Other local organizations include foundations and academic institutions such as the Emirates Foundation, the Mohammad Bin Rashid Center for Leadership Development, the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Emirates Nationals Development Programme, among others. The Gender program also works closely with the Dubai Women’s Establishment where it has been a knowledge partner on important initiatives such as the UAE Women’s Leadership Program.
The Gender program also has a regional focus, and takes part in important GCC events such as the Regional Gulf Forum on Women’s Rights in Kuwait organized by Women’s Social and Cultural Society of Kuwait and Al-Ghad forum held in Riyadh organized by Princess Nouf bint Faisal bin Turki under the patronage of Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz.
The program’s activities have helped to establish relationships with western academic institutions such as Harvard University, University of Maryland, New York University, University of Southern Maine and Barnard College and have seen members take part in global meetings such as the World Economic Forum and the Middle East Studies Association of North America conferences. The program’s team members have also met with important think tanks promoting women’s leadership in the US such as Catalyst and Center for Work Life Policy.
